Thats why they call it MeetUp 07-03-08 @ 11:50 a.m.
We have been so busy lately. I don't remember if I mentioned it here before, but I joined Meetupdotcom (it's free unless you start your own group). I joined two moms groups. It's pretty cool because one is mainly mom and kid activities during the day on weekdays. The other is mostly weekend activities or weeknight stuff and it's a mix of family events and ladies night out type stuff. So far I've been to maybe five or so events and I've met several moms that I really click with. With the one mom whose son is the same age as DJ we set up our own playground meetup already. And I'm sure in the future I'll be doing the same with a few other moms, since they mostly live nearby. The one group has 80+ members so they have members all over, it's only natural that you're going to gravitate to people that live close or have children close in age.
One weird thing, you'd never believe how many people join these meetup groups and then never participate at all! Either they'll join and not do anything, or they'll rsvp that they're coming to an event and just not show or email anyone. WTF I mean, that's why they call it MEET UP. To meet people. People are strange sometimes.
Last weekend was probably the busiest of all year. On Friday alone I had to take my car in, we took DJ to storytime, I had lunch with a friend, made some brownies, picked up the car and then we went to Ed & Michelles for a BBQ. (Which is why I made the brownies) DJ is getting better with being able to stay up past his normal bedtime. We made it till 10 on Friday and nearly 11 on Sunday when we went to see some fireworks. On Saturday we went to a local beach and had a picnic with the one moms group and then tried out their "splash pad"- which is made up of a ton of water fountains squirting water everywhere. DJ LOVED it!! We'll def. be going back.
This weekend I think we're going to do a little relaxing. Dorian is bringing his Wii over tomorrow. Then Saturday we have a bday party for my friends daughter, she's a friend from HS that I haven't seen since then so it should be fun. Maybe we'll try and squeeze in more fireworks but I don't know.
Other than that......I joined a book club!! I am so excited about this. It was also through meetup and it's still in the planning stages, but I am thrilled. I've been wanting to be in another one (I was in one with my sister a few years ago but it was only for like 6 months) FOREVER.
I can't believe it.....I also need to start thinking about DJ's 2nd bday party. His birthday is Sept. 14th...but I need to think about what we want to do. I think this year we might only do a party for family, it just gets too hard/time consuming and expensive to have one for all our friends and family. Plus, I think it's a lot to ask people every year to buy a gift for your kid when gas prices are over $4 and everyone is just trying to keep on top of their bills. Anyway, I want to do another slide show thing, which will consume me for weeks. And then all the other planning on what I want to do for the cake, decorations etc. I already scheduled his pictures- we're doing outdoors this year! Normally it costs $100 just for a "sitting fee", but I have a coupon that negates that. I am super excited about this. I also called and made his appt. with the pedi since I learned last year- having a Sept. birthday is busy time at the doc's with all the back to school appts.
Ok, no one is probably reading this far anyway. Everyone have a great 4th! I just wanted to update everyone on where I'd been.
