Over the Rainbow

Back to School

Dave starts school tomorrow, for his Bachelors. He's got an Associates, but unfortunately he went to a community college to get that and so the University here doesn't accept most of his credits, so he's basically got to repeat everything. Fortunately his company is paying for everything, minus some fee's and book costs.

In the long run this will be necessary for our family to be able to live more comfortably, and also for him to have a job that he would enjoy. However, in the short run this is going to suck!! For him- because taking two classes and going to work is going to be stressful and tiring. And it seems that the classes are a bit different than some universities- usually one night class is once a week for like 4 hours. These classes are twice a week for 2 hrs each. Which leaves him running around doubly, and me left alone with DJ for entire days doubly. To entertain him, feed him, make my own dinner and keep an eye on him at the same time, clean up from dinner, do all the chores/errands around here- all while watching him. Have I mentioned this is going to suck??

I hope DJ is in a phase but lately he has been very cranky and irritable. All day. I suspect it's because he isn't really talking other than a few (and I do mean a FEW words). I think if he was able to communicate better he might be happier. Even though I understand most of what he wants, I just think it may be frustrating. Some days he seems so close to being able to ask for something, others it seems he's got a long way to go. This also sucks. I woke up on Mothers Day and this was all I wanted, was for him to be talking. I haven't gotten that wish yet. I know...once he stops I'll wish he would stop. I just want him to start. He isn't even saying simple words for things he wants. Not saying yes or no. No animal sounds. It worries me some days but so many people have told me stories of boys not talking until they are 2, I hope he's talking sentences by then!

Mothers Day was great this year!! Ten times better than last. For starters hubby realized that I would like a nice weekend where I got a few "breaks". I got to sleep in both days, relax and read my book (Snow Flower & The Secret Fan- which I want to say is a GREAT book and you should read it!). Saturday we BBQed steaks with his parents and sister. Him and his dad did everything from buying the potatoe salad to cooking the steaks for us. (Last year me and his mom had to buy the food, cook it etc. I told him this year it should be the MENS job, Thus the meaning of Mothers Day!) Sunday we went to Mountain Jacks for yes, another steak dinner. Paid for by my dad. :)

Dave also got me some hanging flowers & impatients that he planted himself. He also got me a gift basket with a few diff. things that I needed like a new mirror, brush, nail files, hand lotion etc. AND a $25 Itunes gift card that came in the mail Monday! Before I knew this I used my free Meijer money on a $25 card that same day so that gave me a total of $50 to spend! Amazingly I used it up all in one day. (Which btw, the Sugarland CD is pretty good!) All in all it was a perfect time. Well, minus the fact that my mom still does not acknowledge the fact that I'm a mother as well or wish me a happy mothers day or anything like that. But I don't expect different at this point.

We're getting ready for a garage sale here this weekend. Dave and his friend Jay had the great idea (a little sarcasm) to have one and combine their things. I went through my stuff as well- but let me say that I really didn't want to have another one here for a while. Mainly because he get such a low turn out and make so little for all the hours we put in setting up, running it and tearing down. But anyway, not surprisingly Jay seems to be backing away realizing that Dave actually wants him to be there each day. Since I'll be with DJ- I won't be much help. And I also have a dentist's appt. on Fri to boot. But yup, no surprise, we will probably be stuck here ourselves trying to chase DJ around and run the sale. At least the setting up wasn't too bad. I'm just so tired of this guy right now that it's not funny anymore.
