I guess I never got a chance to update on here last week before we left for our weekend getaway. Well, we took a little trip to Holland MI for the Tullip Festival last Friday and Saturday. Luckily, DJ was much better this year on vacation than last. Also thankfully, the rain held off for us several hours each day so that we could enjoy the outdoors and all that there was to see and do. Well, actually there wasn't a whole LOT for us to see and do, but it was a nice fun mini-vacation!
We had a great room at the Residence Inn that was a suite so it included a full kitchen which I highly recommend with children! That way I was able to nuke DJ's milk for him and to toast his bread, and even to wash his sippys and containers out at night. There was even silverware and all for us, nice! Oh, and since Dave works for the federal gov, we got a discount as well. Anyway, Friday we got there and tried to take a nap (didn't happen) and then went to downtown Holland (we were actually staying in Grand Rapids which was about 20mins away) for dinner and browse the streets.
Saturday was when we did the tourist stuff like visiting the Dutch Village which had shops and demonstrations. They had a group of dancers doing traditional Dutch dancing in the wooden shoes. A carousel, a huge wooden shoe with a slide for kids, a petting zoo, a cheese making demonstration and store to buy the fresh cheese. We also went downtown again to check out Kinderplatts which was a big carnival for kids with lots of things to see and do. Lastly we went to Windmill Island- which has a 250yr old old Windmill. This was where we got rained out and after headed home. Here are some pics:
