Over the Rainbow

April 2008

Ok...where do I start? Been so busy the last couple of months, but really nothing super exciting to report. Just the day to day type stuff that keeps us all busy. By February/March we were all pretty tired of the cold weather here in MI and being cooped up in the house most of the time. Winter blah's always hit hard at this time. At least spring is finally here and the weather has been much warmer with the sun out. As always April is sort of a fickle month here in Michigan; you'll get down in the 30's and often even see a bit of snow; but the next week it will be sunny and warm in the 60's or 70's like it is today. It's a month of sweaters one day and a short sleeve shirt the next. DJ even had a bit of the winter hum-drums...he had a nasty cold a few weeks ago (his very first) and spent a lot of time on mom's lap. When he was better, I certainly knew it because he grabbed his coat and shoes and was ready to venture out of the house after being stuck here for a week straight! It was pretty cute.

Feburary and March had me pretty busy with selling on Ebay; both stuff for the hubby and my brother. It's a lot of work at times, especially with a curious toddler who doesn't like to share your time with a measley computer! But, we made a nice sum of money with selling old toys of Dave's that apparently many grown men are willing to pay a hefty sum for...we sent things off to Australia, France and even Italy. Between that and our tax money we were able to pay off Dave's car that he bought last summer as well as some extra money for other monthly bills.

Even more exciting is that we finally got new furniture for our living room! Sad to say but our previous set had to be about 15 or so years old, maybe more and was VERY dilapidated, a lot of which had to do with the cats enjoying the texture and calling it their personal scratching post. The frustrating part of this is that we have a new set here in our house, but it was delivered with MANY issues- tears, stains and basically a lot of poor workmanship. That was last Tuesday, then, Saturday a new set came to replace them, but they (loveseat and couch) also had issues so we did not accept them. Long story short we ended up going in there Sunday to speak with a manager and we're getting another set Friday. HOPEFULLY this set is in OK condition. If not, I don't know what we will do because we are having my whole family over for my dad's birthday Sunday and they'll have no where to sit but on the floor.

As in years past April is the most busy month of the year for us. We have 4 birthday parties this month. One Piston's basketball game outting (a lot of fun), a few get-togethers with friends and Dave is going to see Hank Williams Jr with Lynard Skynard. We don't have a weekend free. This annoys Dave more than me because with the sun out he's ready to work on the yard. It has me stressed at times with all we have to do, but I also enjoy it. Like I mentioned this Sunday is my dad's birthday and we're having the party at our house. For the first time, I'm going to make a turkey. My sister is going to help because making a turkey is SO daunting to me....I can't wait though, because if it turns out well, I will be comfortable with doing it again and having maybe Christmas or something at my house. I figure if I ruin a turkey with only my parents and siblings present it isnt' as bad as if we had over friends or extended family, that would be more embarassing.

As you saw from the pictures I posted a week or two ago, DJ is doing great. He keeps me on my toes, he gets into everything now. And although you'd think he'd be more independant and play for longer periods of time without mom or dad, not so much. Haha. His favorite things do to are reading, coloring, stacking or building with blocks and his CARS. He races and "drives" those all over the house. He still loves to dance and listen to the radio or make music on his little piano. Recently he's started sitting down and just playing it and experimenting- vs. just pressing and pounding away at any key. It's exciting and the entire family swears he's going to be a musician with the way he is with music in general. We'll see. Ahhh, with 19 months he's still a fussy eater. He used to eat any raw veggie but as of late it's a struggle, which I know is normal. I wouldn't care as much if he ate meat or pasta, but he refuses. I wonder when he will eat more than toast, breakfast foods with syrup, cottage cheese, yogart, fruit and cracker type foods. It makes it hard when we got out to eat because there's really nothing on a menu he'll eat. Unless we share some salad with veggies with him or we get a fruit plate. I'm hoping that maybe giving up the veggies will mean he'll get a taste for other things soon, but not yet. Crosses fingers.

As for me, I've been reading quite a bit lately, sometimes even reading two books a week- and I LOVE it. I've read a lot of great books...I just finished the Kite Runner (amazing!!), I also enjoyed My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult, Good Grief by Lolly Winston, The Husband and The Good Guy both by Dean Koontz, also Water for Elephants was entertaining and so was Shopaholic & the Baby. Right now I'm reading Song without Words by Ann Packer who also wrote Dive from Clausen's Pier. I've also been keeping my new years promise and watching a VHS movie or two of mine a week so that I can get rid of the collection. As you can imagine- I've watched older movies that I still love like Man in the Iron Mask, St. Elmo's Fire, Dirty Dancing, Eye for an Eye, Steel Magnolias and The Scarlett Letter. I still have quite a bit more to do but I'm determined to sell them this year in the garage sale and make room to either replace them on DVD or to decide I don't care for it so much any more.

I'm still on Myspace much more than here. I blog there a lot and I know I should copy it here, but usually I don't get around to it. So if you're on there ADD ME! Baby Einstein is over and it's time for DJ's and my morning snack. Maybe if I get ambitious I'll add another blog soon. I'm sorry I don't get to check in on you all much, I just don't get on DL much anymore.
