It was 80+ degrees out, so it was damn hot! And of course most of the zoo was in direct sunlight, with some shade here & there. I was sweating my butt off. Good thing I lathered us up with suntan lotion which was 50spf. (Mine was left over from Jamaica) I guess it worked, I don't think I got a burn. We'll see how it looks tonight. Oh, interestingly, I wore my pedometer, and turns out we walked 3 1/2 miles, not bad. Guess that counts as my exercise for today!

Ya, getting up early and trying to prepare for a trip like this...feels like you've got to bring everything under the kitchen sink with a baby! Definitely going anywhere with a baby is 100x harder than it used to be. You've always got to keep them in mind, feeding times, nap times, toys, entertainment etc. DJ did really well though. He even managed to sneak in a nap in the afternoon! The trip was worth it though, Detroit has done a lot to improve their zoo over the last 10 years. They've got a new amphibian house, an "artic circle" with polar bears and a new kangaroo park.

Ironically, I've had 4 people ask me this year if I wanted to go to the zoo with them. Dorian was the only one to give me a date though, so he was the lucky one. Even more luckily, his mom got him a zoo pass for his bday (which was today) and we all got in for free! I figure I'll probably go again this year, but in the early fall or so, when it's not so hot! Plus, DJ might be able to appreciate the animals more now. Today he was kind of just looking more at all the people...
